This is Bud!  Well thats what I’ve been calling her anyway.  She’s with me temporarily and keeping me busy atm.  She’s 6 months old and supposedly a Rottie / Staffy cross.  Her mum was definitely a Rottie but I’d love opinions if the BB-ers can see another breed in her mix. A couple people have said a ridgeback and I’m inclined to agree.

I’ll try get some body shots of her and an estimation of her weight. She’s all over me when I go to her so getting a picture will likely require assistance.

She has a lovely nature and is smart.  I think she’ll respond really well with the right people.  As much as I love dogs, I can’t keep her myself.     I’ve had her with me since Sunday and she has not barked once. I am amazed!

I don’t know what it is but I don’t see the Staffy. Ridgebacks are far and few in my area but maybe not yours and it fits better than most. She is a sweet looking dog. hope she gets a good home.

What a gorgeous pup! She’s really stunning and has such a sweet face. I see some shepherd in her coloring and face, though it could be ridgeback if those are common where you are (they aren’t common here).

I hope you find her a great home! Where did you find her?

Don’t know if these shots help any. Lighting is not the best. Neither is my photography skills.  All I could really manage for now.  She shouldn’t really be up there but…. hmm.

@ Elrohwen: I didn’t find her, just offered to take her until we can sort out what to do for her. She came as part of a rescued rabbit situation actually. 3 rabbits were collected, one was a baby with bad wounds. They are all in care now.  Bud might have to go to a dog rescue but they put them in foster care. I would really love to just find her the ideal home now though. I’d like to know where she’s going.

Interesting you mentioned Shepherd. That’s another that had been mentioned when we were trying to guess.

The black saddle on her back makes me think German shepherd even more. Such a sweet face! I love the little wrinkles on her brow. She doesn’t look as big as I expected either, especially with rottie in her background and possibly GSD.

I don’t see any staffy in her either and with that body shape, much leaner than a rottie, has to be some sort of smaller / leaner muscular dog in her than a staff. Shepherd is a possibility like others said.

I also agree with the GSD/Rottie mix guess. Be careful where she finds a forever home. She is going to get huge and expensive to feed (look at those paws!), not to mention a handful for anyone who doesn’t have experience with one or both of those breeds. Hopefully she will just stay a big, loveable sweetie! The GSD my boyfriend has sure is!

Hmmm…..she looks a little like a lab in the head to me. She looks like a complete sweetie!!

GSD mix for sure. I don’t see much rottie in her at all, but if she came from one for sure, then it is there. Possibly lab in there too.

If only I did know she’d be going to such a good home if you could really take her Emily!

I’m having a really hard time regarding her. I wake thinking about her future. Ughhhh!!! The man that had her for the first 6months of her life could care less! He was keeping her on a chain 24/7 when she was collected.

If she goes to foster care, the organisation routinely swap the dogs around between the carers. I guess this gives them more socialisation plus doesn’t allow too much attachment?
So she goes from her home of birth, to me for a week or so…. to foster care home, then another, then another….

It’s really getting to me emotionally. I know she’s a dog who just loves positive attention and if she’s getting that from the homes she’s in, she’ll adjust and cope. But…. don’t they get attached to people? Won’t they get continually confused being passed around? Wouldn’t that contribute to anxiety with some dogs?

Ideally, I could find her a home I know would be great for her. But that could take some time and I worry the longer she’s with me the more we become attached (already happened) and will make handing her over even harder. I’ll feel guilt and she’d feel confusion right?

One: She’s gorgeous. I see German shepherd in her maybe lab. But I’m not an expert on breeds. I have a heinz 57 myself
Two: I just wanted to say I think what you are questioning shows not only what a good person you are JG but I think what you are saying is correct. In my personal opinion, dogs do get attached to their owners or caretakers very quickly. My moms dog follows her from room to room even with bad arthritis. I don’t know what your situation is but if you really can’t keep her, I would say your mind would be most at rest if you personally found her a home you like and she likes and you can check on her. I seen now that’s what you’d like to do but you’re worried about getting attached. Do you have a friend or family who maybe can help you foster her?

Honestly, I think that well adjusted dogs can adapt well to many situations. That being said, I do know that my relationship with my dog is more important to her than any other relationship. With me, she can do just about anything. With another person she gets anxious and nervous (something we had to work through for her Canine Good Citizen test). I am going to say it has less to do with the amount of change and more to do with the amount of structure she receives in her foster homes. That is, if she goes to each home, and everyone works on training her, giving her a job, exercising her enough, ect, she will turn out fine. If she gets passed around and everyone feels bad for her, she is going to pick up on that energy of discontent and wonder why everyone feels like there is something wrong when she is around and that is going to give her anxiety. Does that make sense?

Totally makes sense! Really good to read that perspective actually.
Thanks you both for your input. I re read my post ^^ I think I was just getting it off my chest. I end up coping with things like this by just taking a simple approach : Thinking positively. There’s little else to do really. And now I see my being positive will only benefit her also as they do pick up on your energy. Thanks so much for reminding me!
I know my home right now is not the best for her. I absolutely think she’ll do great with someone knowlegeable that can give her the structure she needs. I’d be learning on the fly and that’s not good for her.

@FrankieFlash, that is what I would like, for her to go to someone I know really. I’ve been sounded that out as much as possible but so far nothing has eventuated. Yet.

                                  @Kytkattin
, is your dog Buddy Stubbs?!!! Because I kept remembering that dog since I’ve been calling this one Bud. :p

I am glad it makes sense. Sometimes I feel a little crazy. lol. Yes, Buddy Stubbs is a part of my family. Though I was specifically referring to my Chihuahua, Daisy who I have been training for that darn test. Though the same approach has helped Buddy tremendously. When he was first adopted from the local SPCA he had been transferred there from the local pound after being attacked by another dog at that shelter. He wouldn’t let you touch anywhere near his rear (which we had to do because of his long fur), he was terrified of Chihuahuas (we have 8), and he wouldn’t even walk on a leash without rolling over and screaming like he was being beaten. Now he is obedient enough to be walked without a leash (a great trick for letting little kids think they are walking him!), falls asleep when I am grooming him, and tolerates the Chi-things just fine, even when they get excited and in his face. Oh, and he used to fixate and try to chase cats, but he is a lot better about them (ironically, never any prey drive towards rabbits/chickens). He is getting pretty old at this point, at least 10 though probably closer to 12. Amazingly, he still pretty much looks the same. No grey on his face or health problems! I still even have the image I think you manipulated for me to make him look like Dug from Up!

LOL. So funny you still have that. I hadn’t realized he had those problems but so good reading how he’s over come them. With the right owners and training they can come so far! It just gives me hope there are good people out there for Bud. I have to keep reminding myself.
                                      Thanks again.

I agree that she could adapt to it very well – happy friendly dogs adapt well to moving from place to place. There is some confusion at first maybe, but a dog like her will probably be fine going from place to place. A more nervous and anxious dog might become more so, but it could also make them more adaptable – hard to say. Like you, I’d prefer she go to one foster home until she finds a permanent home, but the system they have is still so much better than leaving her in a shelter cage for weeks.
