So, I started putting together my bunnies condo, i’ve only got 4 grids put together but it doesn’t seem like it will hold…I tightened the zip ties as tight as I could…will it be strong once it’s all put together?

from what ive heard you need to use excessive amounts of zip ties and as you go it will feel flimsy BUT keep going it’ll beef up soon

If you feel like it is flimsy, I suggest dowel rods for extra support. And yes, tons of zip ties

Once you make the grids into a box and attach a ceiling or shelf, they will tighten right up.

Thanks! =) I am planning to use dowel rods for support too. I may need to get more zip ties! LOL

I know it seems flimsy at first but I promise it will tighten up! As I was putting the grids together everyone doubted that the structure of the condo would be solid and hold. Once we started putting in the different levels it became really sturdy. Putting in dowels never hurt. =]

You are right! It has become a lot more sturdy! =) And I am not even half way done yet! haha But it’s awesome! It’s turning out great! It’s almost as tall as me! =D Needs to be, though. The buns are going to love it I just know it. I am making it smaller than I had originally planned because it won’t fit in my room otherwise and I still need room for the x-pen! =P

How big are the cable ties you are using? The little short thin ones are not normally strong enough for a cage. I would use the longer thick type! They work best! Normally I put one zip-tie on the second hole in on both sides and then in the middle of four grids I crisscross them. Kind of hard to explain but I show how I do it in the beginning of this video:

I use the 8″ 8lb ties and they have worked great for me

I’m not using thick zip ties or long ones. My dad said it didn’t matter the length but I knows it matters the width of them. It seems to be holding up though. I heard that you aren’t supposed to use the thick zip ties. Hmmm should I go back around and double tie them? It stands on its own and everything.

Where did you hear not to use thick ones? I don’t like the little ones because they are flimsy enough that if I pull on the grids I can break them.

I heard on a couple vids and on budget bunny. =/

The little ones are holding up for me though. I’ve been pulling on the grids and folding it and stuff and none have broken. I think I am okay. The condo is almost complete, now.

This is it so far, no base or anything yet.

Nice! How big is it going to be?
