hello! so i used to keep milo, my rabbit, in a XL dog crate. I’ve forgotten the exact measurements but its from the midwest brand. anyway, i purchased an xpen a long time ago with no intentions of using it as a cage. i just wanted to use it as a barrier basically. but my parents completely remodeled my room and i managed to take out my desk that i never use. and i moved some stuff around and i thought it would be great to use my xpen as a cage. (I thought of it like a few weeks ago) anyway, here is what it looks like now: oh btw the panels on his xpen are 28″ each instead of the usual 24″ and it is 42″ tall.

oh i tried uploading them but apparently the photos are too big. so uploaded them on flickr. and i also have a second shelf which is 40″ long and 27 and a 1/2″ wide so it’ll fit. if some of you are worried that it might collapse or fall, don’t worry. i zip tied everything together and its pretty sturdy but i added pictures anyway! so his cage measurements are now 6foot10inches long and 28″ wide. so he has plenty of room to hop about. i was wanting to somehow add a third shelf? but i don’t want him to like jump out and then hurt himself. also for those of you wondering, the shelf is 18″ high off the ground which is shorter than the height of my bed which he can jump on and off with ease. he doesn’t seem to have any problem getting on or off the shelf. should i just leave it the way it is? (in terms of building another shelf) or try and add a third one? any ideas? pictures? would be greatly appreciated! i do plan on adding some sort of hidey house. thanks! and yes my rabbit lives by himself and if you are wondering what he is doing in the first picture, he is drinking water LOL

          the build itself looks great!
id maybe add something over the shelve and zip ties so they arint exposed
and maybe a house to hid in, other then that seems to be ok
i know my pet store sells these heavy duty plastic houses that also have stairs on em, could use it as a easyer way to get to the second level

I think it looks great! Although I do have one suggestion- I would put an old blanket, rug, towel, or something on the shelf and on the floor. He might have trouble jumping without slipping on the hardwood floor. I’m not sure how big of a chewer he is so what you put would differ based on that but I used door mats that were like $2 a piece at *Home Depot and they’re mostly for grip purpose, although he does lay on them too.

*I must be getting crazy writing the wrong stores. Sorry I edited this though.
