Frankie has started honking and making all sorts of noises which I can only attribute to the start of puberty (he’s about 12 weeks old). I picked him up today and noticed that one of his testicles has descended. Dumb question: is it normal for only 1 testicle to drop at first, or should they both drop at the same time and I just didn’t see the second one? I’ve never had a male rabbit before, only females, so this is all still a little new for me. Thanks!

It could be any of those things (both there and can’t see one, one hasn’t descended, etc). He’ll be doing normal teenage things now. Looks like it’s time to get him neutered!

Yup, probably time to start thinking about the neuter. Males can be neutered when the testicles descend, usually around 3 and a half months.

Thanks, LBJ10! I’ll take a look at him again today to see if I just didn’t see the other one. Also, do you (or anyone else) know of a good way to position a bun comfortably and in a non-stressful way so that I can check to see if both testicles have dropped? Frankie’s genital area is a bit hard to see sometimes because of his fur and when I picked him up several times yesterday to check, he had a tendency to tuck his testicle(s) back into himself. I tried offering him a piece of food so he would have to stand on his hind legs to reach it and I was hoping to catch a glimpse of his area at the same time, but again, I couldn’t see it because of the fur :-p

Have you tried using two people? One hold and one look?

Yeah, I just tried it tonight while my boyfriend held him. Turns out both testicles are there, but one is slightly smaller than the other…weird.

That’s how Ash was when his first dropped but after a few more days both were there & the same size…

My wife recieved quite the surprise yesterday when our bunny of a week at home (16weeks old) displayed his balls quite prominatly to her. She laughed saying they were the pinkest, most danglely things looking sort of like the fake testicals people sometimes put on their pick up trucks. Heh, it just happened, no behavior change or anything. Today I guess he tucked them back in but yesterday it was almost as if he was showing off.
