So I have a silly question for you all. I am having surgery on Friday. In my experience, with previous surgeries when i was little, my cat would be all over me when I got home, trying to “fix”, clean, groom and on one occasion, tear out my stitches. With Foo being close to me (like, every waking moment when I’m home because she follows me), and knowing when I’m upset, should I expect her to try to “fix” or “help” me when I get home when I get home from the hospital? Do rabbits do this, or does no one have any sort of maybe similar experience? Thanks guys.

My first rabbit could really sense things and “helped” me all the time, even if I was just upset. She was always cuddling and cleaning my hair.

My buns now, a boy, doesn’t seem to know. He is very loving, don’t get me wrong, and loves to snuggle, but it is really because that is what he wants to do. He only cleans me if he is really loving the pets I’m doing.

I think it depends on that specific rabbit really. Vibes for a quick recovery for you!!

Healing vibes to you! I don’t think you should expect anything since all animals are different. Don’t think bad of her though if she doesn’t play nursemaid though.

My rabbit Bobby licks me but I don’t think it’s because he thinks I’m his, I just think it’s some instinct he has, just not sure what it is.

Hope all goes well for your surgery.

I guess “expect” isn’t the right word. I know I’m going to off and home all week, and she’s going to be like “Why aren’t you playing with meee?” and I know that if I doze off or take a nap while she’s running around, she’s always like “Mommy, what’s wrong? Mommy, are you okay? MOMMMMY????” and oinks, stomps and sniffs me until she wakes me up. Like I said, in the past, my cats have tried to “fix” me…

Thanks for the good thoughts. I’m not sick or anything. I’m mostly deaf in my left ear- from years and years of ear infections as a small kid- and my ENT is basically going to rebuild the inside of my ear (ear drum and bones) to hopefully fix this issue.

                  Good luck with your surgery!

I think it depends on your bun. I’ve had a couple of surgeries since I’ve had bunnies. The first was a cervical spinal fusion when Eddie was alive. I smelled differently so they wouldn’t have anything to do with me until I was able to shower. Eddie was my snugglebug so after I healed a bit, I was able to snuggle with him again. I just had a trial nerve stimulator thing done a couple of weeks ago. Lolli wouldn’t even come near me because of the smell of the equipment that was taped to my back. Once I had it all removed, she was back to her normal self. She’s not really snuggly. I have to hold her to get her to snuggle on the couch. But she usually will come up to me if I’m on the floor. So I wouldn’t feel bad if your bun has nothing to do with you at first.

                    Good luck on the surgery!

She sounds very in tune with you, so she might be a little more concerned than usual, but not sure if she’ll act differently. My husband had surgery when Otto was a single bun and Otto couldn’t have cared less about him. lol But then, Otto is pretty aloof, so I didn’t expect him to change his behavior.

Good luck with your surgery. I had abdominal surgery in March so I was away from home for three days in the hospital. When I came home I had a cat on my feet, a cat on my pillow, and two rabbits in the middle. Gary is a total clown by nature. He would nose bonk my forehead to make sure I was watching, then he would do silly things- throw his toys, race around the room, fall into his water dish. He was so funny! Becky would snuggle and give lots of kisses. The only down side is when Gary got to running sometimes he would use me as a speed bump like normal. Thank goodness he is only 3 pounds because it really hurt when he ran over my stomach.

Since she is so connected to you she might try to comfort you as you heal. Enjoy the extra time with your bun and get well soon.

Thanks, everyone. I just found out Ry took off next week from work to be home with us, so hopefully it will be a good calm week. I am going to my parents for the first couple of days, and I hope she doesnt think I left her. Apparently Foo was looking for me while I was in class tonight. I know its silly to worry about how she’ll react to me smelling and acting different when I get home, but I cant help it, Im totally bunny whipped.

The vicodin is helping a lot. I just feel like I cant do anything, even laugj without it hurting or feeling dizzy. Im not supposed to bend over or pick anything up, amd earlier my sister had me laughing really hard and that hurt. My stiches are down the back of my ear, not to gross anyone out but my doc basically flipped my ear over on my face in order to get inside and i am terified of moving.my head or anything. As much as i like being at my parents i do want to go home to Ryan and Foo. But its easier here because my bedroom is on the sams floor as the bathroom so theres no stairs or anything to deal with during the night while really drugged or anything.

So i am home. Foo was apparently spoiled all weekend and had a great time with Daddy. She has been up to see me on the bed and is sniffing and climbing all over me. Shes like you look like mommy and almost smell like mommy but you arent playing but i will stay with you in case you are mommy
