Hi folks. I really do appreciate the help that this website has given me, so I just felt it was necessary to introduce my new Flemish Giant Conan the Bunbarian (well Conan really, but we can’t help but follow it up with the appellation). Got him yesterday and he’s even cooler then imagined. Of course I wasn’t expecting so much poop!

Well, I’m off to manage litter training. Again, thanks folks for helping me better understand what I got myself into.

LOL!  I love the name!  My Flemmie’s official name is Roscoe P. Buntrain.  You’re gonna love your Flemmie!

And lol on the amount of poop – get used to it. I have to change Roscoe’s litter box every single day.  I switched to using wood fuel pellets with a screen on top and hay on top of the screen.  Makes it very easy to dump the hay/poop pellets, and then scoop out the parts of the wood pellets where he has gone potty.  Just add more pellets and whammo, you’re all clean!

The wood pellets are so much cheaper and work so much better than the Yesterday’s News pellets I was using – only $4 for 40 pounds….

Well first I got to get him to poop in the litter box, then I can start using a screen. Problem is though my litter box is huge, 3ft by 2ft (home depot got a cement mixer bin for a good price and seemed like it could work), and it will be tricky to find a screen to fit. I got 2 plastic canvas that are 22in by 13in that might do the trick.

I would submit more pics, however I’m unfamiliar how to make my photo’s into lighter files.

I’m so excited for you! You’re gonna love being a bunnyparent to a Flemmie! Conan is such a manly name, good choice! The poops will die down once he’s altered… How old is he? My young buck just turned 12 weeks and is giving me a heck of a time (just a heads up)… nothing like my female was when she hit puberty. Looking forward to future posts & pics!

He’s 12 weeks. Today it seems the poops were far more limited. Could it be because he is now feeling comfortable and doesn’t need to mark so much? It’s his 3rd day in our home, and today I let him out for the first time and he spent about 2 hours very well behaved. Yesterday I let him out for about 30 minutes and he chewed, dug, peed and pooped wherever he could, but today just a few pellets and a little curtain chewing.

Actually I’m almost worried, but then he let me pet him, is eating and drinking, and still pooping, just not as much. I guess I’ll continue to monitor.

It’ll slowly diminish as he feels more comfortable – and hopefully go away once he is neutered. My Roscoe is getting fixed in two weeks, and I can’t wait.

Just keep in mind that certain things may make him leave marking pellets more….  If my dogs put their head in Roscoe’s crate – which they often do out of curiosity and sometimes to get him to come out and play – he sometimes will then leave pellets just across the open gate and across in front of the crate – as though to say “this is mine, stay away.”

The other night, he and hubby were having a turf war.  He wanted to hang out under hubby’s chair when hubby had the footrest up.  Hubby didn’t like him being under there, worried he would forget and close it on Roscoe – so he got down there and tried to shoo Roscoe out.  No luck.  Ended up having to practically pull Roscoe out from underneath so hubby could close the chair.  Roscoe wasn’t too happy with him the rest of the night.  Every time hubby would get up, Roscoe would jump up in his chair and leave some pellets. And a couple of times he did a serious nose bump and nip at hubby’s sock-covered toes.

Later hubby gave him some treats, and it was all good…..
