The farm I take horseback riding lessons at has 6 rabbits that are kept outside and only get pellets. They dont get socialized at all. The people say they’re old and mean. They posted an ad on craigslist for FREE RABBITS! I know this means they will most likely be snake food. I dont think the owner will want to put much effort into rehoming, I’m not sure they would even bother driving them to a shelter. They also talked about taking them to a rabbit park and releasing them. The owners daughter told me about this and I asked what if I send your mom a link to a local rabbit shelter? She wont like that is the answer I received. I want to help them but I cant take them. What can I do to help?

Could you/your parents take them to the shelter yourself?

Yes. I also found a rabbit shelter near us and emailed to see if they could take them

That’s good. The shelter might even be able to pick them up from you if you’re unable to travel yourself.

My mom agreed to drive them. The shelter also takes them to the same vet who takes care of my bunnies. This shelter was recommended for me to volunteer at by my mom

That’s horrible. Sad how people can love horses and be horrible to rabbits. I’ve experienced similar problems with the many barns I’ve ridden/boarded at over the years. I managed to save a few of them. Thank you for trying to help.

They belong to the owners 14 year old son. I’ve been there for 4 years, the only reason I stayed there is because I love one horse there. We were at the vet today for my injured dog and I asked her about the rabbit shelter and if they take owner surrenders. She said yes but there is a very long waiting list. Unfortunately they want them gone asap

I emailed a ton of shelters and one woman was extremely helpful! She contacted a friend who can take all 5!!! The price for each one is $10 so I am taking care of that. Hopefully the owner is home tomorrow so the woman can pick up the rabbits. I’m so excited they are being saved. The woman will work with a local shelter that is overcrowded so she will be like a foster mom until they find good homes

I’m just seeing this thread now, but want to say kudos! You have quite possibly saved these bunnies’ lives and are definitely the reason they’ll know safety and comfort and love.

Thanks, one lady is interested in adopting Belle and Roxy, the bonded girls. None of these bunnies are spayed and neutered but I’m concerned about having them spayed and neutered because they are older rabbits. I’m requiring for the new homes that they are not bred, they are kept indoors, and as soon as they are adopted they see a vet. I love looking at the before and after being rescued pictures because they are amazing, especially Oliver. The old owner said they were old and mean but the foster lady said they are so sweet. One of her friends wanted Belle and Roxy because her son absolutely loved Belle and she liked him but unfortunately they don’t have the time or money. Belle is sooooo cute and I wish I could take her and Roxy but my parents won’t let me. They are staying outside but they are in large cages that are connected to runs. It’s winter though so I’m fine with them being outside right now because it doesn’t get too cold for them and it’s better than being snake food. She also goes to the community garden and brings them vegetables all the time so they are doing great. They each have a box or carrier stuffed with hay, Sox likes sitting in his and enjoying the sun. They used to live in a very gross, dark area so it has been years since they have seen the sun for most of them.

This makes me want to bawl! I wish all buns could be loved and pampered and have oodles of daylight ?

The bonded pair of girls were adopted by her friend and the local rabbit rescue got a few of their rabbits adopted out so they had space for all three males. They will be neutered (unless they have health issues that would make that unsafe) That rescue actually take their bunnies to the same vet that my bunnies go to. I wish I could upload some photos because they are adorable

                                              Wonderful news Cocoa! Great job!

My mom keeps a record of “lives saved”, humans and animals. Sounds like you should start your own list.
