I’ve decided to stop lurking and brag about my bunny.

Jolene is a steel gray Flemish Giant. At 3 months old, she already weighs 7 lbs. Jolene really lives up to the nickname of Gentle Giant attributed to her breed. *WARNING: violence against bunnies* I still feel horrible about letting one of my young nephews get too close to her. He smacked her in the face with a wooden toy but she continued to sit there trustingly.

She gets to free roam the house during the day, but has to stay in her pen at night. We had a trial run with letting her range around at night, but she didn’t maintain her good daytime litterbox habits (nuggets everywhere!) and generally got into mischief.

We try to binky together every evening before bed. She gets excited when I scratch at the floor, jump around and generally wig out.

Funny story: After her first visit to the vet last Friday, she promptly peed and pooped on my leg (note: bunny urine is shockingly hot–I half-expected chemical burns).

Here is Jolene when she was only 8 weeks old.

Eeeek!! So so cute. Love flemmies 🙂

I had to laugh at the story of your nephew hitting her with a toy. I’m sure the kid shouldn’t have done it, but I laughed because I’ve definitely kicked my bun in the face and hit him in the head totally accidentally. Even us adults can be clumsy sometimes, but bunnies put up with us good naturedly 🙂

And I too have experienced how warm bunny pee is. Lol. And your story about binkying with her is so cute. I think that officially makes you a bunny slave 😛

You may want to try the free range thing a little later on, when she doesn’t feel like she needs to keep reminding you that the place is hers. Her poops will lessen in time. I don’t let mine run free because I’m afraid to wake up in a box they’ve built around me with a shipping stamp to Burma.

Don’t listen to Mark. His buns are “special”. LOL
Well, always take his serious advice, even if he writes it from Burma.

                  Your bunny is gorgeous.

Welcome to you and your gorgeous bunny! Don’t be surprised if you get haggled to supply lots of pics…there are a lot of Flemish Giant lovers here.

I’m glad you think my binkying is cute. My bf thinks I should be mortified at my behavior. He keeps threatening to secretly record me so I can see how bizarre I look.

After so many months of freedom, she rebels at being penned up too much. When we do put her in her pen, she jostles the top of it constantly and searches for ways to get out. When I had my little nephews and niece spend the night once, I awoke to find that she had scaled the pen and was running around ecstatically in circles across their sleeping heads (they didn’t wake up despite numerous circuits).

Welcome! She’s adorable. I love how her fur got lighter as she got older. So cute!

I want to second Elrohwen about the um…hardiness… of our buns. Yes, they’re delicate creatures, and no, your nephew shouldn’t have been smacking her in the head with a baseball bat… but… accidents happen, and I have ACCIDENTALLY kicked Leroy in the head on more occasions than I’d like to admit… you might not have such a problem with her since she’s a big bunny, but Leroy is a little stinker and he seems to get under foot and run around where I can’t see him until my foot and his head have connected!

                          More pictures please!!!!
