I’ve read all of the instructions and tried and tried, but I could not get Sable on his back.  (Didn’t want to force him so the first twist he gave got him away).  The other day I wanted to clip his nails so I wrapped him in a small towel as I carried him to the couch.  When I got there I casually flipped him over while rubbing his forehead and out he went.  It was amazing.  My husband was speechless.

I gently unwrapped him and I was able to get one foot completely trimmed before he came to.  Hopefully with some practice I will be able to get through all of them.  It would be so much less stressful than the way we’ve been going at it.  Hubby doesn’t want Sable to think he’s a bad guy so he’s shy about holding him while I do the clipping.

Congratulations on trancing and at least getting through one foot!  That’s big success!. My Rucy really avoids being put on her back, but it’s that ‘ol forehead rub that really does the trick with trancing and I usually have to put her through a few trances.  I don’t think one trance has ever been long enough for me to do all feet.   I’m fast, but not that fast. Though I know some people are!  Speedclippers!

Your hubby can just rub Sable’s forehead to help keep her in a trance or help put her back into another one when she comes to.   Bailey doesn’t need to be tranced to get her nails trimmed so I’m lucky there.  And Jack, he goes straight into a trance as soon as he goes on his back, but I have to watch it, because when he comes out of it, he can freak out, and so I have to always make sure he can’t hurt himself by kicking out into the air.

You’ll soon be old hat at it.  I am so glad you were able to do this.  Less stressful for all of you! Human and bunny alike.

Yeah! Bunny Trance and Clipping Celebration!

Trancing is safe, and can be a good way to help calm him when you have to do nail clipping etc, but I think that if you want your bunny to bond and trust  you, that you try to cuddle him on his terms.   Trancing him means  you would have pick him up against his will and then when you tranced him he would go out.   So he really wouldn’t be engaged with you, only you with him.  So it would be better for you to bond in a mutual way.

Right now, I know he is a handful with his aggression (from the other post) but give it some time, offer healthy treats like mint, rosemary etc while you hang out on the floor with him.
