Monday night we pick up Drue, Tuesday we pick up Tucker from my mom’s and then the two of them both come back home.  I have Drue’s condo set up on top of Tucker’s pen/condo.  There is some spots on Drue’s lower level (not his main levels) where they could see each other.

Is this a good idea right away? Or should I block off any sight from each other at first?  I  know I heard it was ok to let them see each other ..but I just wanted to make sure..since Tucker isn’t spayed yet.

I wonder if it will help that Tucker won’t have been at home for 5 days and they’ll both be coming back home at the same time.

Any other tips you can give me?  Like I said, we’re not even attempting bonding for a while because Drue needs to get used to not being around puppies and dogs and barking and Tucker needs to be spayed/recuperate.  For right now I just need peaceful somewhat co-existing.  What is the best way for me to achieve that?

Since they will be in such close quarters living arrangements wise..do you think I should still wash my hands after touching one before touching the other?  Or do you think they’ll just be used to each other’s scents?

Thanks for any help you can give me!  We leave tomorrow but once we get to NJ (Saturday) we will have internet there.  I’d like to learn as much as I can so that I don’t mess anything up when we get home with them!

i think it’s okay for them to see each other, as long as they cannot nip thru the bars. you said you have mesh grids. i think that’s a fantastic idea in teh shared areas so they cannot fight. if you bring them home and one or the other is visibly upset, you might have to make changes, but see how it goes at first.

i wouldn’t rush to wash your hands right afterwards, at least until you find out how they are reacting to the other. if you do this and Tucker becomes very upset at the smell, than maybe…

Well I have only the mesh grid in the one space.  The other part was already there so it has regular grids.  I’m sure I could find something to put there though..even cardboard tacked up would work for now I guess.  Then they’d have limited space to see each other but they couldn’t fight atleast!
