Hi everyone,

I'm a new bunny owner so am still learning about them. Bilbo's am 11week old house rabbit. Anyway today he's done 2 wee's on a red carpet (never wee'd on it before) but the wee is yellow :s I ran upstairs to get my phone to take a photo and the cleaning bits but by the time I got back downstairs (literally 30secs), the wee had absorbed into the carpet. I'm not 100% sure what his wee looks like because he normally pee's in his tray but when he's had the odd accident outside the tray, so on a beige carpet or sofa the pee just looks like what I'd regard as normal wee. His diets not changed. My partner gave him 1/4 of a red pepper last night for his tea (he's only ever had a tiny bit from me before) so i'm worried maybe the pepper's the cause? Any answers would be most grateful.. I think a trip to the vets is needed

Other than that he is still eating / drinking fine. 

Rabbit urine can be any color from white to a reddish color. Yellow is perfectly normal

Really, so he's fine? But why is it looking different on the carpet now 

I definitely think your bun is okay! I just about had a heart attack when I noticed my buns pee was a different color but as I've been giving them veggies, I've noticed the difference in the color. For example, if I give them 3 cups (3 buns bonded) split into two salads a day then it's very very light yellow but if I give them all 3 cups at one time the next day their urine ranges from really dark yellow to almost an orangey red. It's perfectly normal for the color to fluctuate especially when giving new veggies or new amounts.

If you're still worried -- I'd call your rabbit savvy vet and let them explain it to you! My vet will take questions I have over e-mail or telephone rather than having to make a vet appointment for no reason. I'm sure yours would be willing to set up this same system for you, especially if your new to the rabbit community!

Thanks so much for your message! What is a' rabbit savvy vet' - is it just the local vets? I will try and see if I can do the same as it would be much easier than appointment. A rabbit savvy vet is one that specializes in rabbits. Most vets are the typical cat/dog type, and do not know the different stuff needed to treat rabbits probably. Rabbits are very different than cats/dogs and require more specialized education.

If you go into Bunny Info on this site you should be able to find a rabbit-savvy vet in your area!

And he's soo handsome! Have to love those loppy-ears!
